Lorena Wiebes switches from Team DSM to SD Worx. The sprinter signs with the Dutch cycling team for three years.

Wiebes still had a contract with DSM, but due to a clause in it, the 23-year-old cyclist succeeded in making the switch. If she could improve on another team, Wiebes could get out of her contract with DSM.

“In principle I would have liked to stay with my current team, but I received an offer from SD Worx that offers many possibilities,” said Wiebes, who will become a teammate of Demi Vollering and the Belgian Lotte Kopecky.

Tour wins

This year, 23-year-old Wiebes already booked seventeen victories, including two stages in last week’s Tour de France. She rode in the yellow jersey for a day and gave up in the penultimate stage due to the aftermath of a serious crash.

At SD Worx, Wiebes hopes to draw on the big names within the team. “For years I dreamed of being part of the world’s best UCI women’s team with several world top players,” said Wiebes.

“The large number of victories this season says something about her qualities,” says sporting manager Danny Stam about the arrival of Wiebes. “Although we mainly focus on the tougher races and also like to make the race as a team, it is also nice when you as a team have a big chance in the sprint.”

“For the coming years, with Demi Vollering, Lotte Kopecky and Lorena Wiebes, we will have three world toppers in house, who each excel in their own field.”
