One year already. This Monday August 15 marks the first anniversary of the capture of Kabul by the Taliban. On August 15, 2021, this capture of the capital – hitherto under the control of a government supported by Washington – had marked their return to power. Since then, the country has closed in on itself, while the risk of famine remains significant. On Saturday August 13, about forty women chanting “Bread, work and freedom” marched in front of the Ministry of Education before a group of Taliban fighters dispersed them by firing into the air in bursts, some five minutes after the start of the walk. The demonstrators carried a banner that read: “August 15 is a black day”, in reference to the date of the capture of Kabul in 2021 by the Taliban.
