In their only match on the calendar for the second day of the Cup, the Forlì got rid of the German champion Wesseling with a significant 14-0, and suspension of the game after four innings due to the rule of “manifest superiority”.
Already in the third game, Poderi dal Nespoli’s attack exploded to its full potential: few valid ones all in all, but 11 of the 14 points arrived thanks to three home runs. The first, from three points, was signed by Beatrice Ricchi, breaking the deadlock and immediately directing the match in the direction desired by Forlì. The other two were scored by Marta Gasparotto: the new signing of the team from Romagna waited all season to finish rehabilitation after a heavy knee surgery, and in fact started playing continuously again on the occasion of the Cup. Wesseling has paid the price of her competitive desire: the Friulian has made two “Grand Slams”, two home runs with solid bases, for a total of eight points placed in the safe. Two Grand Slams in the same game at the hands of the same hitter is a literally unique event not only in softball, but also in baseball.
The rest of the match doesn’t count. The attack from Romagna dictated the law from start to finish, the defense never got distracted, while Ilaria Cacciamani went to the launch pad. The blue, on his debut in the Champions Cup, pulled a convincing game, without conceding anything to the German clubs, which were not to be underestimated in the prediction.
For Wednesday, the calendar reserved another double engagement for Poderi dal Nespoli. In the morning, at 11.15, the match against French Les Comanches is scheduled; in the afternoon at 18 there is the challenge to the Spanish rivas, a difficult match against another opponent who has strengthened himself for the Cup and is decidedly formidable.
