It’s not just a tournament, it paves the way for international careers: The VARTA ÖTV Youth Championships are the flagship event in junior tennis. Almost 300 young tennis talents fight for medals in Innsbruck for a week. VARTA has been the official premium partner of the Austrian Tennis Association (ÖTV) in the youth and junior sector since last year. “It’s really hard in professional sport to rise to the top young players in the world. This includes perseverance, passion, but also courage. VARTA stands for the future – just like the young tennis talents who give everything to start a national or international career. VARTA supports young people and invests in their future. We are pleased that we can not only promote the best minds in business and technology, but also the best sporting talents,” emphasizes Michael Tojner, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority owner of VARTA AG and founder of Montana Tech Components.

Melzer: “It’s important to support young people so that they are well prepared for the future”

After the successful start of the tennis youth championships in 2016 in Klagenfurt, the renowned junior tennis tournament (U12, U14 and U16) is held in a different federal state every year. This year the VARTA ÖTV youth championships will take place from August 15th to 21st in Innsbruck (tennis club IEV MED-EL, Reichenauerstraße 144). Last year, Tyrolean Anna Pircher and Gabriel Niedermayr (Upper Austria) won the individual U12 class, while BTV aces Leonie Rabl and Thilo Behrmann won the U14 class. Tamara Kostic from Vienna and Joel Schwärzler from Vorarlberg became Austrian U16 champions. “The youth tennis championships are an extremely important tournament because they determine the status quo of who is the best player in Austria. And for that we need strong partners in junior tennis. It is important to support young people so that they are well prepared for the future. Because the youngsters will become the professional players of tomorrow,” comments ÖTV sports director and Davis Cup captain Jürgen Melzer.
