A (big) ray of hope for the Knicks?

Everything starts from above. As so often in life. And the NBA is no exception to this rule. For a franchise to thrive, it is best that the man who owns and runs it is stable. It is no coincidence that, for example, the New York Knicks have been mired in mediocrity ever since they were owned by James Dolan. The team has been in his image since 1999.

Even if he is not responsible for all the evils, his escapades, his self-centeredness and sometimes his incompetence have greatly contributed to making the organization a circus and a training that is continually disappointing despite all the potential of the New York market. But good news could be on the horizon.

Interviewed by CNBC, Jonathan Boyar, president of Boyar Intrinsic Value Research, predicts a sale of the Knicks (and Rangers) in 2023. Why 2023? Because that’s when the gigantic new hall built by the MSGC group, of which Dolan is the CEO, in Las Vegas will be finished.

Boyar therefore anticipates a change of horizon for James Dolan. Note that Boyar Management Asset is a minority shareholder in MSGC and MSG Networks. That doesn’t necessarily mean he knows what’s going on in the Knicks owner’s mind. But franchise fans will hold on to this wind of hope until 2023.
