The World Cup dream ended for the Mexican Women’s Under 20 National Team.
El Tri, who had just given the surprise against Germany to qualify for the Quarterfinals, could not repeat the feat and fell 1-0 to Spain.
Against one of the favorites of the tournament that takes place in Costa Rica, the Mexican team at times fought one-on-one and had opportunities in front of the goal, but in the end they were surpassed by the individual talent of the Europeans.
At the National Stadium in San José, Mexico could only withstand the initial dominance of Spain for 25 minutes, which took the lead with a goal from Inma Gabarro, who pushed the ball into the small area, after a service from Salma Paralluelo.
By then, the VAR had already intervened to reverse a penalty in favor of a Mexican National Team that, once again, had its best player in Natalia Mauleón.
Although the Iberians played closer to the rival area in that first half, encountering good saves from goalkeeper Celeste Espino, the tricolores came close to equalizing with shots from Samantha López and Alexia Villanueva that hit the crossbar.
At the start of the complement, Spain crashed a shot on the post and then the match became more difficult, with few actions in the areas.
Even with Ana Galindo’s changes, it was difficult for El Tri to come out with a controlled ball and team up on offense, which helped the Europeans manage the result.
At the end, Mexico held on and even Espino went up to finish off a corner kick, but there was no miracle.
El Tri’s first defeat in the World Cup was the one that ended his illusions.
