League Cup: low flyer from 4th division eliminates Fulham, “Belgian” goal for Burnley | League Cup

In the League (also called Carabao) Cup in England, the first first division teams also came into action in the 2nd round. And with Fulham, a first first division team has also died.

  1. 17′ – Goal – Tom Nichols (1 – 0)
  1. 50′ – Goal – James Balagazi (2 – 0)

After 3 matchdays, PhD student Fulham boasts 7th place in the Premier League. A stark contrast to Crawley Town, which is currently in penultimate place in the League Two (fourth division) and therefore threatens to end up in amateur football.

Of course Marco Silva chose to give almost his entire basic team a rest against these football dwarfs. A decision that he would pay for, something that started to dawn on him after fifteen minutes after Tom Nichols’ goal.

Liverpool mercenary James Balagazi brought Crawley – not even against the flow – after halftime to 2-0. Fulham’s response was poor, with only 1 shot on target.

Vincent Kompany does not immediately have the easiest start at Burnley. So he could use a boost in the League Cup.

Shrewsbury, which plays one division lower, did not just let it roll over him. In the end, a goal of “Belgian” origin made the difference. Ex-Standard player Samuel Bastien found the net on a pass from Manuel Benson.
