Agnès Manfreda, another look at disability in sport

Agnès Manfreda, 47, started judo a dozen years ago at the Roquemaure judo club. A sport that she particularly likes by registering her two children at the start, one of whom is now a black belt, her daughter waiting for the fighting part of the new season for her transition to black belt.

Practicing this discipline had not even touched her and chance did things well. Mireille Savreux, a teacher at the club, encouraged him one day, at the end of her children’s training, to put one foot on the tatami, like a premonition. With her foot down, Agnès has adopted the tatami, to the point of now having the training of regional sports commissioner “with the aim of going over and training as a judo referee”.

Unfortunately, Agnès was the victim, in 2017, of a serious car accident which left her with serious consequences: a motor disability on the right side with muscle reduction. A slope difficult to climb with its share of anxieties. But determination and acceptance remained powerful vectors for Agnès, accompanied and supported by the whole club, it was with such solidarity that she was able to cope and continue to work around a benevolent sports team.

“Sport has helped me not to look back”

“You can play sports even with a disability, I know that I am physically impaired but sport has helped me not to look back. You have to go further, sometimes surpass yourself, but it remains a powerful vector for the mind. “, adds Agnes.

Mireille Savreux, the judo teacher, very present throughout this new adaptation, motivated, pushed, supported her to pass her black belt, arranging certain training sessions. “The technical part is successful, the fights and the total of 100 points remain to be achieved. I trust her, Agnès is determined. I have a specific objective for her: her next participation in the disabled sports championships.”

Agnès keeps her smile and can be proud of her journey. An example of life and lucidity.
