[더팩트 l 과천=김영미 기자] Badminton players from Gwacheon City performed well at the ’68th Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival Yongin 2022′.
The men’s team (Lee Young-don, Park Han-jong, Lee Dong-woo, Choi Jin-ho, Chae, Byeong-chan, Cheon, Seon-cheol, Moon Hee-cheol) and the women’s (Woo Yun-hwa, Kim Seon-ae, Choi Ji-yeon, Lee Ji-hyun) participated in this athletics tournament.
In the badminton preliminaries held on the 24th at the Dankook University Gymnasium in Yongin, Gwacheon City Council Vice-Chairman Woo Yun-hwa lightly defeated Kang Seon-ae and Uiwang-si players, who competed in ‘doubles’ as the representative of Gwacheon City, 2-0.
Meanwhile, the Gwacheon-si badminton team won 3rd place in the match on the 26th, with the men’s team competing against the Uiwang-si team for 3rd and 4th place. Also, the women’s team played well against the Pocheon-si team in the 7th-8th place match, but unfortunately ended up in the quarterfinals.
Gwacheon City does not have a badminton business team, so coaches and club members of Gwacheon City Corporation split their busy hours to train and practice.
At the same time, the Gwacheon-si badminton team played as a player as well as Lee Young-don, secretary general of the association, and Woo Yun-hwa, vice-chairman of the Gwacheon City Council. This result received attention as a hot topic as the players who participated while practicing in a harsh environment showed good results.
Lee Young-don, secretary general of the Gwacheon City Badminton Association, said, “Other cities and counties are made up of elite players, but Gwacheon City played the game with leaders of city officials and members of the association. I will try my best to make it happen,” he said.
