The two Serie C Gold teams, Fortitudo Messina and Orsa Barcellona, and Amatori Messina, militant in C Silver, will represent the province at the next Coppa Sicilia
We will leave on September 14 with four groups made up by neighbors. The three teams face off in one-off or two-way matches. The four group winners will qualify for the semi-finals (one-time or two-way match), while the final will be played in early October October.
Applications are also open to host the last act, so that it is an event that goes beyond the single game and draws attention in a city where basketball needs to be pushed.
The Sicily Cup to create interest in basketball
«I am happy that the Sicily Cup will be organized again – affirms the president of Fip Sicilia Cristina Correnti – and above all the massive membership of the Sicilian teams. I hope that in the future the participation in the Serie D and in the women’s Serie B can be extended ».
«We wanted to relaunch a trophy that will serve as a preview for the Sicilian championships – explains regional councilor Dario Provenzani -. We want to do it well and see the interest that can be created, allowing the C teams to do a preseason protected by the federation, with an organization behind them at reduced costs: it is an important service. In this way, even the referees can train and prepare for the season. We hope to bring the final into a single match in a city where top basketball is no longer there or where new realities are being created that want to involve the territory ».
