The 45-year-old from Córdoba assumes the technical direction for the AmeriCup and the next FIBA windows.
The Argentine Basketball Confederation announces the arrival of Pablo Prigioni as the new technical director of the Senior Men’s National Team. The coach will have as his first commitment the AmeriCup (September 2 to 11 in Recife, Brazil), to continue in November and February with the last windows of FIBA qualifiers to the 2023 World Cup.
From Recife, the new coach stated: “My feeling for the National Team is very great, as is my commitment to this group. The Argentina shirt is the most important thing. We are focused, staff and players, on giving the best of each one of us in the tournament that lies ahead”.
“Pablo is an example of improvement and permanent evolution. He had an ascending career as a player and for a long time he remained in the main world competitions. I have no doubt that his career as a coach in the National Team will be the continuation of his constant professional development”, Fabián Borro, president of the CAB, expressed for his part.
As a member of the “Golden Generation” of Argentine basketball, Prigioni was part of the squad that won the bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, among other achievements. With an outstanding stint as a player in Europe and the NBA, the 45-year-old coach from Cordoba will thus have his debut as Head Coach of a national team.
After his retirement as a player, he was coach of the Spanish Baskonia and assistant in the Brooklyn Nets and Minnesota Timberwolves (position that he will maintain).
Prigioni will be accompanied at the AmeriCup by Gonzalo García, Leonardo Gutiérrez and Guido Fabbris as assistants.
