reduced to ten, Troyes frustrates Stade Rennais

Stade Rennais broke its teeth on the defensive block of ESTAC Troyes (1-1) on Sunday afternoon, during the 6th day of Ligue 1.

Rennes and Troyes were neutralized (1-1) this Sunday, in this 6th day of Ligue 1, at the Aube stadium. Yet at ten since the 26th minute, the players of Bruno Irles were able to pocket a precious point.

The first period was rather hectic with Iké Ugbo opening the score at first, well present in the Breton area to recover the ball badly repelled by the Rennes defense on the strike of Lopes (14th). Another significant episode: the expulsion of Yoann Salmier for a very big foul on Lovro Majer. The Trojan defender wiped his studs on the Croatian’s shin, leaving his side outnumbered. Despite this fact of the game, Bruno Genesio’s players never knew how to pierce the Trojan defensive curtain, especially attempting long shots well repelled by Gauthier Gallon. A very sad first act on the offensive level for Stade Rennais with only five small shots attempted despite 73% possession during the intermission.

In the second half, the Rennais continued their clear domination, well helped by the entries of Désiré Doué and Kamaldeen Sulemana who brought offensive percussion into the spaces. In difficulty, the Bretons can thank the duo Terrier-Santamaria for their constant and solid performance: the first decisive passer, the second scorer during the equalizer (48th). The midfielder took advantage of his teammate’s service at the entrance to the area to land a flat-footed shot, successful with the post returning. During the rest of the match, Stade Rennais never managed to break through the Trojan defensive block which was consistent in maintaining the draw successfully.

With one point taken, Rennes now occupies 9th position alone, while Troyes is tied for points with Auxerre in 10th place.
