Italian Paralympic Committee – European Judo IBSA, gold for Carolina Costa

The IBSA European Judo Championships in Cagliari ended in the name of Carolina Costa. The Sicilian champion proved once again to be one of the strongest athletes in the world, winning gold in the J2 + 70kg category. La Costa preceded, on the podium, French Prescillia Leze and Azerbaijani Dursadaf Karimova, the latter winner of the Tokyo Paralympics.

The 28-year-old from Messina, registered with the Judo Franco Costa club, repeats the success of three years ago at the European Championships in Genoa and adds another trophy to her very rich showcase. From 2018 to today, silver medal at the Baku Grand Prix, bronze at the 2018 Lisbon World Championships, gold at the Grand Prix in Azerbaijan, bronze at the IBSA Qualifying Tournament in Fort Wayne (United States), gold at the IBSA European Championships in Genoa and at the Grand Prix in Uzbekistan in 2019. After the stop caused by the pandemic, in May 2021 the return to racing with the victory of the silver medal at the Ibsa Judo Grand Prix in Baku, Azerbaijan, and another gold in June, in the Grand Prix Warwick (England) before the bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics.

The Costa’s gold is added to the silver of Asia Giordano and the bronzes of Benedetta Alessandra Spampinato and Dong Dong Camanni won on the first day of competitions.
