Jorge Monroy wins the North Open for the fourth time

George Monroy.

Monroy won on the third playoff hole, beating César Costilla and César Monasterio, who had also finished with 275 strokes, -9. Another Tucuman, Augusto Bruchmann (h), won the prize for the best Amateur by tying fourth place overall with 278.

This was Monroy’s fourth victory in the North Open and the 38-year-old player did it on three different courses, with this win on the Jockey Club’s Country course. In 2010 and 2018 he had done it at Alpa Sumaj and in 2016 when he played at the Salta Polo Club.

“I am very happy, it was a great finale and certainly exciting for the entire audience because we were all from Tucuman. It was very even throughout the day and luckily in the playoff I played very well and in the end I was able to get the victory”, said who made par to win on the third playoff hole.

The definition was very even throughout the day and no one ever took an important advantage, moreover after fourteen holes there was a tie of four players at the top (Monroy, Costilla, Monasterio and Contini).

Augusto Bruchmann (h).

Costilla was the first to take an advantage, but Monroy quickly tied it with birdie on the penultimate hole and when it seemed that everything was between them, César Monasterio hit a spectacular shot on the final hole to leave his ball given and with the birdie on the toughest hole on the course to force a triple playoff.

The tiebreaker was played on the final hole and on the first hole Monasterio was out after throwing his ball into the water with his second shot. On the second hole Monroy had a chance to close it but his ball touched the hole and did not go in and Costilla responded with a four meter putt for par.

But the definition came on the next hole when Costilla with his second shot threw his ball into the water. Monroy only had to do par to consecrate himself once again in his province. “We are local no matter where it is, whether on the old court or on this one, we are used to playing here and that means that we are always protagonists. I think the course was very good this week, the greens very difficult but it was a great challenge all week”, said the 38-year-old.

Costilla did a great job but just fell short. “I hit very well all day, only the bogey of 10 hurts me, the rest of the round was very good,” said who this Sunday presented a card of 65 hits.

To highlight was the work of César Monasterio, who came close to winning his first North Open at 58 years old. “I was in the fight until the end and there is nothing to be reproached for, it was a spectacular week,” said one of the great names in Tucuman golf.

For Augusto Bruchmann (h) it was his second victory as Best Amateur in the North Open but this one was special because he was fighting the Open. “It was a great week, I played very well and I even gave myself the chance to fight upstairs, so I’m very happy,” said the Tucuman, who was seconded in the category positions by Andrés Schönbaum (h) with 284 strokes, also a former champion. of the event. Juan Martín Loureiro and Miguel Sancholuz finished in third place, equaling the pair of the field.

Jorge Monroy also took, in addition to the Cup and the Medal of the Argentine Golf Association, a 50-inch Smart TV courtesy of Noblex.
