Eight Azzurri arrived in Nottingham (Gbr) for the final of the Para-Archery Cup. In the city of Robin Hood tomorrow the semifinals will start and on Friday the individual and mixed team finals live on the youtube channel World Archery Europe
Final stage: it is the final and decisive act of the Para-Archery Cup. It will take place in Great Britain. And precisely in Nottingham from today, Tuesday 13, until Friday 16 September, which will mark the conclusion with the finals. The famous city of Robin Hood will be painted blue. Yes, because there will be many Italians on the archery stage, thanks to the results obtained at the Para-Archery Cup in Nove Mesto and subsequently at the European Championships in Rome, which were valid as the “second stage” of the circuit.
The expedition will see eight elements on the English firing line: Stefano Travisani (Blue Flames) e Vincenza Petrilli (Fiamme Oro) in the Olimpico Open; Matteo Bonacina (Archers of the Alps), Maria Andrea Virgilio ed Eleonora Sarti (Blue Flames) in the Compound Open; Paolo Tonon (Society of Castle Archers), Francesco Tomaselli (Solese Archers Group) e Asia Pellizzari (Society of Castle Archers) in W1.
The Azzurri, who today are busy with official practice shooting, will take the field both in individual and mixed-team competition. The start of the races is scheduled for tomorrow with the individual and mixed team semifinals. The event will close on Friday with the matches for the medals that will be broadcast in live streaming on the World Archery Europe youtube channel (one live in the morning and one in the afternoon).
In short, after the successes obtained this season between the Dubai World Cup, the Nove Mesto match and the continental review in Rome, the Azzurri can go to close the international season outdoors they are ready to have their say for the umpteenth time with a ‘wide and thick representation. Once again the Italy of Paralympic archery is ready to assert its qualities.
And to compete in an international context, perhaps trying to repeat or even improve the results obtained in the same exhibition three years ago. Back then, on the occasion of the European Para-Archery Cup, they competed in Wiesbaden, Germany. And the spoils turned out to be very respectable, as per tradition: eight podiums and tricolor on the second step of the general classification, behind only Russia. The only gold had arrived thanks to Elisabetta Mijno, who however will not be present in Nottingham. But in 2019 you had the merit of triumphing, in the final, against the Ukrainian Roksolana Dzoba-Balyan. Furthermore, the silver of Maria Andrea Virgilio is splendid, folded only in the final act by the Russian Stepanida Arthakinova. As silver was the balance of the W1 expedition, with Salvatore Demetric, Asia Pellizzari and the mixed-team, formed by the same Demetric-Pellizzari, to drop a terrific hat-trick. Three, however, the bronze medals: for Stefano Travisani in the individual of the Olympic arc, Alberto Simonelli in the Compound and for the mixed-team in the sign of Virgilio-Simonelli.
Now, another test in England: the bar is raised further. But the National Para-Archery, led by technical director Guglielmo Fuchsova, assisted by coach Fabio Fuchsova and physiotherapist Chiara Barbi, comes to Nottingham with a baggage cemented by the certainties gathered at Nove Mesto and at the European Championships in Rome: on both occasions , Italy excelled in the medal table. In total, something like 27 podiums have been collected: 13 in the Czech Republic and 14 in the shadow of the Colosseum. Under the sky of a deeply Italian summer.
