The top clubs in the women’s premier league have all started the season with a win. FC Twente won by the largest margin and is currently the leader.
The reigning national champion won 5-0 on a visit to VV Alkmaar. At halftime it was only 1-0, thanks to Fenna Kalma, but things went fast in the second half. Via Wieke Kaptein, Kalma again – last season’s top scorer seems to pick up where she left off last year – and Marit Auee it was 4-0. Kim Smal’s own goal was the final chord.
For example, Twente is still unbeaten, after it had defeated Ajax in the battle for the Supercup last weekend. The loser of that first edition was only able to shake off newcomer Fortuna Sittard, which made its debut in the women’s Eredivisie, late on Friday evening at De Toekomst.
Thanks to Victoria Pelova, the lead was already there halfway through the first half, but that 1-0 remained on the scoreboard for a long time. An own goal by Moïsa van Koot with fifteen minutes to go and two late goals by Pelova and Soraya Verhoeve secured the victory for last year’s number two.
That other top club in Dutch women’s football also made no mistake at the opening of the season. PSV recorded a modest 1-0 victory over sc Heerenveen at De Herdgang. The only goal came from number 10 Inessa Kaagman, who came over from Brighton.
Rotterdam Derby
The Rotterdam derby at Varkenoord between Feyenoord and Excelsior started stormy, when Dana Breewel shot the visitors 1-0 after three minutes. But before the break Feyenoord put things in order with Maxime Bennink’s equalizer. The winning 2-1 came from the foot of Pia Rijsdijk.
On Sunday, ADO Den Haag and Telstar will face each other to open the season.
