His parents
His mother is none other than Margarita Geuer, better known as Wonny, one of the great references of women’s sport in the 90s, being then a key player in the women’s basketball team. Of German origin, he was born in Seville and was part of the Barcelona 92 Olympic team or the team that managed to become European champion in 93. Geuer is precisely the surname that Willy has worn on his shirt for years with the national team, something that Wonny herself declared was a surprise because she did not expect him to wear it.
After winning the Basketball World Cup in 2019, Willy remembered that his mother had told him, laughing, that If he wanted to continue winning gold medals, he had to continue wearing his last name on his shirt.. “I am proud to take his surname to the greatest”, recognized the player then.
William Hernangomezthe father, was also a professional basketball player, playing in the lower categories of Real Madrid, spending a season in the whites’ main team as a center and then going through different ABC league teams. He and Wonny both graduated with degrees in Business and Economics, a degree she had to take a leave of absence from during her preparation for the Olympics.

Who should not take your eyes off is Andrea Hernangómez, the youngest of the family who is also dedicated to basketball and who has lived the Eurobasket as one more fan from her social networks cheering on her brothers and the rest of the team. Since the young woman went to study in the United States, she plays in the Fairfield Stags women’s team.
After becoming world champions in 2019, the brothers remembered that it had been a hard road full of sacrifices, especially personal ones. “We remember those moments that we have not been able to enjoy with family and friendsbut even so it was worth it because we are champions”, they said excitedly to Cuatro’s microphones. That was an opportunity to thank their parents and sister, but also two other important people in their lives: “Grandpa, thank you very much too. Grandma, if you’re watching this, thank you for having such handsome grandchildren.”

Basketball has always been present in the lives of the brothers who woke up today with the hangover of being European champions. In an interview with Cadena Ser a few years ago Wonny Geuer explained that they have always “played a lot as a family. Until they became strong and competitive. Until Willy elbowed me and we were physically passed and it has already become impossible.”
Both began their careers on the court in the lower categories of the Las Rozas Basketball Club to gradually ascend to play in the ABC League. Since 2016 the two have played in the NBA, where have met on the field competing against each other.
