The Guadalentín Sports Games fill Lorca with physical activity

September in Lorca is a fair, but it is also a popular sport. For 43 years, the City of the Sun has been a regional benchmark in promoting physical activity for citizens through the Guadalentín Sports Games (JDG). The so-called ‘Lorca Olympics’ are a model of sporting, social and cultural event both for the number and variety of sports disciplines represented, as well as for the joint organization through the Department of Sports, the sports clubs and the group of sports volunteers .

The 43rd edition of the JDG, which has been held since September 9 and will conclude on October 12 with a massive cycle ride, includes the main novelties this year: the National Squash Open, the International Petanque Open, the I Almirez Zarcilla Bike, the 1st National Archery Concentration ‘Flechas Rosas’, the Spanish Heavy Throw Championship, the 1st City of Lorca Cycling Criterium, a crossfit exhibition, and a series of conferences whose main course is the prestigious researcher Catherine L’Ecuyer on October 7 at the War Theater.

Soccer, motor racing, table tennis, orienteering, volleyball, yoga, senas, aquazumba, paragliding, basketball, golf, paddle tennis, sport fishing, handball, chess, badminton, futsal, taekwondo, model airplanes, fencing, swimming, karate, judo, mountain bike, trail and tennis complete the sports disciplines represented. The JDG are more than a calendar of activities, they are the popular manifestation of the sports city identity that characterizes Lorca, not only in September but throughout the year. The JDG are sport, people, values ​​and are one of the main episodes in the history of sport in the Region of Murcia.
