In the past, there were two grounds used by the Giants on the Tokyo side of the Tama River (Ota Ward), Taiyo and Lotte on the Kanagawa Prefecture side (Kawasaki City), and Toei and Nippon-Ham, where the official games of the Eastern League were held. The Giants’ Tamagawa Ground opened in 1955 and was used until 1985 when the Giants Stadium was built in Yomiuri Land. In the 1980s, many “Tamagawa gals” gathered for idol-like athletes such as Shoji Sadaoka and Tatsunori Hara. In March 1998, the “Sayonara Tamagawa Event”, which was led by the giants OB, was finally returned to the country and closed. Haneda Sports Ground Ruins
In 1909, the Keihin Electric Railway completed a baseball field, tennis courts, and later a track and field stadium on reclaimed land off Haneda. It is said that the adventure novelist Haruno Oshikawa, one of the members of the sports social group “Tengu Club”, recommended it to his friend Rinsen Nakazawa, who was the chief of the electrical section of the Keihin Electric Railway and was also a literary critic. The completed ballpark was used by university baseball clubs such as the Tengu Club and Waseda University. In 1911, the track and field qualifiers for the Stockholm Olympics were held. The site of the baseball field is now Haneda Airport. The place where the home base used to be is the “T-4 Taxiway” on the west side of Runway B, which can be seen from the Haneda Innovation City Ashiyu Skydeck.
