During the last few months, the Canarian Open Water Cup has been held in different parts of the Archipelago. The swimming crossings that the swimmers have had to carry out have been located in such special places as Isla de Lobos, Maspalomas, Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, Papagayo, San Sebastián de la Gomera, La Zamora de Fuencaliente, and in many others. places, informs the Valle de Aridane Tennis Club.
“The last of these swimming crossings was held last weekend in La Restinga, to the south of the Island of El Hierro, a tough crossing due to the conditions of the sea and the enormous difficulty involved in entering the dock, where the the test after traveling several kilometers swimming without greater protection than the will of the participants. It was La Restinga where several of the people who have been representing the Valle de Aridane Tennis Club collected their trophies as champions and champions of the Canary Islands in different categories”, he points out.
María Brito Sánchez became champion of the Canary Islands in the children’s category, Máxima Gómez Yanes became champion in the junior-1 category, Cristina González Lorenzo and Javier Hernández Hernández were champion and champion, respectively, in the Master30 category; category where Carlos Lorenzo won second place in the regional ranking. For his part, Pedro González Lorenzo was third classified in the Master35 category. Finally, Lorimer, a teammate of the club, who got third place as senior A, after swimming 6,500 meters from Tacorón to La Restinga, proof that the swimmers of the Valle de Aridane Tennis Club also completed.
“The winners and others who during the cup swam under the Valle de Aridane Tennis Club logo, allowed the club to rise as the second in the Canary Islands in the Cup in the children/junior category, as well as third place in the Masters category”, he highlights.
All the awards were delivered by the mayor of El Pinar, Juan Miguel Padrón, and by the president of the Canarian Swimming Federation, José Maroto.
“All the people in the Aridane Valley and outside of it who like to swim will be able to find in this club a meeting and training place that will allow them to enjoy the beauties that the sea of the Canary Islands offers us”, he concludes.
