With another outstanding performance by Charles Mitchell, Oberá managed to win against Baurú Basket, while Regatas de Corrientes achieved a key victory against Pichincha and keeps their hopes of qualifying intact.
PICHINCHA 84-87 CURRENT RACES
After the heavy defeats received yesterday, these two teams faced each other looking to redeem themselves and show a better image. The Argentine team was the winner in a tight match.
After an even first five minutes, the Bolivian team managed to take a slight advantage at the end of the first quarter, based on a good defense to put a 26-18 run in their favor.
During the second quarter, Pichincha tried to continue his good run and managed to stretch his lead to 14 points. However, towards the end the Argentine team made adjustments in defense and reduced differences with cuts towards the rim and duels in the paint, ending the first half 44-39 in favor of the Bolivians.
Already in the second half, the game followed the same trend and, with good percentages in the outside shot, Pichincha kept his rival at bay to reach the last period with an advantage of 6 after a 24-23 run in his favor.
It was in the last quarter that the Argentine team managed to penetrate the rival defense based on collective play and extremely high percentages in field goals. He quickly tied the game and, with an inspired Pablo Espinoza (16 points – 10 rebounds), he managed to put on a 25-16 run at the end of the period, thus reaching his first victory in this South American competition.
The scorer of the game was Eduardo Gamboa, an Argentine point guard from Pichincha who came from playing in Miramar in our country, with 26 points. It should be noted that Espinoza, forward of Regatas de Corrientes who passed through Cordón, had a 80% accuracy in field goals.
OBERÁ 63-55 BAURÚ BASKET
The duel of the winners left us pleased little by little based on what was seen in their previous matches. In a low-scoring match, the missionaries managed to take the match against the Brazilians due to details.
A game in which there were no clear differences in terms of numbers but in terms of intentions. The Argentine team was looking to hurt with the outside shot, while the Brazilians attacked the paint and looked for penetrations to find easy goals. It was a pattern that was repeated throughout the match.
The advantage at the break was taken by Oberá with a partial of 36-31, after some 17-16 and 19-15 in the first and second quarters respectively.
In the second half, shooting percentages dropped considerably. Both teams were taking forced shots and neither team was getting flow in their game.
Beyond everything, the team led by Fabio Demti managed to maintain its lead and even widen it very slightly after winning the last two periods with a run of 16-15 in the third and 11-9! in the last 10 minutes of play.
Charles Mitchell was once again the standout in Oberá with 16 points and 6 rebounds, followed by Jonathan Maldonado with 12. On the Baurú side, Danilo Fuzaro was dispatched with 14 points, being the top scorer for Jorge Guerra’s team.
The activity continues this Sunday as follows: at 7:00 p.m. the duel between Pichincha and Baurú, while at 10:00 p.m. there will be a clash of Argentine teams when the undefeated Oberá faces Regatas Corrientes.
