The Playoffs – Week seven of College Football holds good surprises

It was quite a weekend at College Football! With top-notch games, falling favorites and memorable plays marked week seven of the season. There are still several undefeated teams in the top 25: Georgia (7-0), Ohio State (6-), who was off this week, Clemson (7-0), Michigan (7-0), Ole Miss (7-0), TCU (6-0) and Syracuse (6-0). So, it’s time to look at the best that happened in the games of this round.

With ease, Georgia tramples and should maintain leadership of the AP ranking

In preseason, Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea called the Commodores “the best team in America.” Well, the team arrived to face Georgia, away from home, already with a dubious record: 3-3. And when you find yourself with the true “best team in America”, chaos can ensue. And that’s what we saw with a resounding 55-00 for the Bulldogs.

Stetson Bennett finished the match with 24 passes in 30 attempts. He racked up a total of 289 yards and two touchdowns. Life was so smooth that there was time for reserve Carson Beck to come in and throw two more TDs. Georgia only conceded one punt during the entire match. It was a performance to solidify the position of the number one team.

“We are not King Kong on top of the Empire State Building. We have to work and run every week, go out there and wait for a dogfight until it’s not one.” commented an enigmatic Bennett after being asked how relieved the team was to have a great performance after three weeks of tight games. Well, after the great exhibition, a fair break in the week that begins and the team returns to the lawns on the 29/10th when they receive Florida.

When even the reserve decides to shine:

Tennessee beats Alabama in game of the year, crowd cheers

Tennessee finally beat Alabama. The Volunteers haven’t beaten Crimson Tide since 2006, but the wait is over. In a fiercely contested match, decided in the last bid, the hosts won by 52 to 49. One of the things that most marked the end of the match was the party that Tennessee fans threw.

The crowd invaded the lawn of Neyland Stadium:

Worth mentioning is quarterback Hendon Hooker. It was 385 passing yards with five touchdowns thrown and one interception. The veteran was a redshirt freshman in 2018 for Virginia Tech and transferred to the Vols in 2021. In his fifth year, fourth playing at College, there’s no doubt that Hooker could appear as a real contender for the Heisman Trophy. In addition, he starred in one of the most emotional moments of the night with his mother after his hard-fought victory:

The defeat can (and should) knock Alabama out of the AP Top 04. Will Crimson Tide miss the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2019-2020? In fact, since its creation in 2014, it was the only time that Bama was not present at least in the semifinals. “We didn’t answer the bell today,” said Alabama coach Nick Saban. “We did a lot of things to help (Tennessee) win,” he concluded resignedly.

Will Clemson return to the good times?

Okay, we know it hasn’t been that long since Clemson was a powerhouse and all-year favorite. However, 2021 left the impression that Dabo Swinney’s men were no longer the same. However, things seem to improve in 2022. So far there are seven wins and a possible entry into the top 04 this week. In the 34-28 triumph against Florida State, away from home, it is worth reviewing this beautiful play that opened the third quarter and gave the team tranquility to win.

After all, who will cast for Clemson?

“I feel like we do a lot of things better every day in attack”says quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. “We still have a lot of room to grow to get where we want to be. We were efficient tonight. Not in as many plays as we usually do. But we were really efficient with our plan.” concluded. In the next round, undefeated duel against Syracuse at home on Saturday (22/10).

Basketball or football? At last, North Carolina win

In the classic that has much more relevance in College Basketball than in College Football, North Carolina had an incredible play with 16 seconds left to beat Duke away from their domains by 38 to 35. Sam Howell’s replacement, Drake Maye, will doing well in command of the Tar Heels snaps with 6 wins and only one loss this year.

Lance who gave victory to North Carolina in the classic:

Three moves worth mentioning in the round

Some moves deserve a special mention due to the level of difficulty they needed for their execution. How about starting with Darnell Washington who shone once again for Georgia in the easy confrontation against Vanderbilt? The tight end ended the match with four receptions for 78 yards, one of the best on the field.

The tweet speaks volumes about what Washington has done:

Another worth mentioning is Anthony Richardson. The Florida quarterback wasn’t as steady as he threw the ball, accumulating just 185 yards and a rushing touchdown. It turned out that the Gators were defeated by LSU at home by 45 to 35. However, the QB remembered great scramblers by noting that TD from an incredible 81 rushing yards.

No one could stop Richardson from the ground:

Closing the week’s moves, how about a tour of FCS? In the second tier of College Football USA, Montana was eventually defeated by the Idaho team, 30-23, but saw its second-year wide receiver, Junior Berger, make one of the receptions of the year in the match.

Berger shone in this pass for the Montana team:
