After league successes at Pellets WAC (2:1) and against Rapid (1:0), Ried landed their third win in a row. The cup finalist of the past season had to tremble for this. The Innviertlers were two goals behind in the Waldviertel after goals from Okan Yilmaz (16th) and Patrik Mijic (18th). Ried played a red card for Horns Niklas Hoffmann after a foul (24th).
Seifedin Chabbi (53′), who came on at the break, and Stefan Nutz (68′) used their numerical superiority to equalize after a change of sides. The decision was made by Kragl in the finish after a rebound. The German Ried returnee put the ball in from outside the box after Horn goalie Fabian Ehmann thwarted Chabbi’s first match point in a one-on-one with a foot save.
LASK with luck and a late winning goal
LASK coach Dietmar Kühbauer called up his nominally strongest eleven in front of 2,000 spectators at the FAC in Vienna, and they took command from the start. Rene Renner converted the superiority with a powerful left-footed shot to take the lead (23rd) – to the delight of the 300 or so fans who had traveled with them, who had again followed the first 19 minutes with silent protest because of the pink shirts. Shortly thereafter, Thomas Goiginger (30th) also scored, but was ruled offside.
FAC didn’t often get in front of former FAC goalie Alexander Schlager’s goal, but acted coldly when faced with a set piece: Marcel Monsberger headed in to equalize after a Paolino Bertaccini free kick (39′). In the second half, an open game developed in which the second division team also found chances. Marcus Maier narrowly missed the FAC lead with a shot from the pole (59th). Schlager also parried against Alexander Mankowski (73rd). That took revenge shortly before the end when Goiginger tipped him into the goal after a Michorl corner to win (89th).
Kühbauer was relieved after the game. “We played a very good game in the first half, where we actually have to lead more. It would have been easier for us if we had already closed the bag. With the equalizer it was clear that things would get hotter now,” explained the 51-year-old. “But the boys came back and more importantly we’re through to the next round.”
Klagenfurt as a “Ländle” fright
Klagenfurt didn’t have an easy time in Dornbirn either. The Vorarlbergers had already eliminated a Bundesliga club in the second round of the cup with Egger Glas Hartberg. This time, too, they held up for a long time. The Brazilian Renan equalized Nicolas Wimmer’s lead in Klagenfurt (18th) with his fifth cup goal of the season in the 39th minute. Christopher Cvetko (82nd) made the decision. After Admira Dornbirn (8:1) and SW Bregenz (5:0), the favorite from Carinthia eliminated the third team from the “Ländle” in a row.
Vorarlberg is no longer represented in the cup. The two Bundesliga clubs SCR Altach and Austria Lustenau, like Hartberg, had already said goodbye in the second round. Defending champions Red Bull Salzburg are guests at Admira on Wednesday (8.30 p.m., live on ORF Sport +). In addition to the Graz Derby GAK against Puntigamer Sturm Graz (live on ORF1), Blau Weiß Linz meets WAC (each at 6 p.m.).
