Borussia Dortmund’s A-Juniors suffered a setback in the neck-and-neck race with 1. FC Köln. The BVB offspring could not defeat Fortuna Düsseldorf. It was even worse for the talents of FC Bayern, who were literally shown off by 1. FC Nürnberg.
After seven matchdays in the A-Junior Bundesliga West, BVB was enthroned at the top of the table with a whopping 19 points. With 18 points, only 1. FC Köln kept an eye on Dortmund – now the balance of power has turned. On Sunday, the black and yellow at Fortuna Dusseldorf did not get more than 0-0. Since the Cologne side won 2-0 at Rot-Weiss Essen, the young billy goats are now greeting from the top of the table, followed by BVB in second place, one point behind.
For Borussia, who have been at the top of the league in the West for years, Fortuna is slowly but surely developing into a feared opponent: They have only won three of the last seven league games (one draw, three defeats). In 2021/22, however, there was a memorable 9-1 for BVB in Dortmund. Only Julian Rijkhoff, who couldn’t take a trick at 0-0, scored five times back then.
FC Bayern offspring on the ground
Saluting from second place like the A-Juniors of BVB is something that the talents of FC Bayern can only dream of at the moment. On Sunday it was the next broadside at 1. FC Nürnberg.
The club, which was only one point ahead of Munich before the duel, swept Bayern 4-0 off the pitch. Thanks to the success, the Franconians climbed to second place (17 points), Bayern is in tenth place (10 points) just before the relegation zone.
The goals were scored by Can Uzun (8th/75th), Dustin Forkel (12th) and Filip Ilic (67th). FC Bayern ended the game with nine men after Noel Aséko Nkili (72′) and Arijon Ibrahimovic (87′) were sent off.
“Today we couldn’t even come close to repeating the performance from last Tuesday. Unnecessary and careless mistakes in building up the game and a duel lead that has nothing to do with competitive sport brought us this disappointing performance today. Nuremberg deserved to win. It was a It was a disappointing day and everyone has to question themselves whether that’s the way they want to perform. As a younger team, you have to defend yourself in every action. We didn’t do that today,” said Bayern coach Danny Galm in mercilessly honest words.
The measure of all things remains the 1. FSV Mainz 05, which is enthroned unbeaten after eight matchdays at the top.
