A great experience for the Juvaldo club
Guillaume Gaulin (far right) won bronze in a new weight class in Montreal.
JUDO – It was time for experiments for the Valdorien judoka Guillaume Gaulin. In addition to trying his luck in a new weight category, he was trying it out in one of the most important competitions on the continent: the Quebec Open.
Registered in the seniors, less than 90 kg, Gaulin did not seem shaken by the presence of stronger opponents than usual. Victorious in his first two duels to start the day on Saturday, the representative of the club Juvaldo lost in the quarter-finals to Constantin Gabun, the eventual winner of the category.
To keep his chances of staying in the fight, Gaulin had to emerge victorious from his three repechage fights. A feat he achieved and which paid off, since he was able to move up the rankings and finish the tournament with the bronze medal.
Four other Juvaldo proteges were also in action at the Complexe sportif Claude-Robillard in Montreal. Two of them managed to win a fight during the competition without getting their hands on a medal, namely Nabil Borsal (U18 -66kg) and Aydan Berger (U16 -46kg). Katherine Gaulin (U21 -57kg) and Louka Vallières (senior -81kg) suffered defeat in each of their fights.
The latter two, along with Guillaume Gaulin, will head to Toronto for the Ontario Open on November 11 and 12.
