The Université Laval Rouge et Or and the Montreal Carabins will play for their ninth consecutive Dunsmore Cup on Saturday in Quebec City.
Laval earned its bye by beating the Concordia Stingers 38-27 as the Carabins defeated Sherbrooke 23-15 last week.
Quarterback Arnaud Desjardins completed 24 of his 30 passes for 321 yards for Laval. He completed three assists for majors. His Montreal counterpart Jonathan Sénécal completed 24 of his 34 passes for 264 yards with a touchdown pass.
Rouge et Or coach Glen Constantin prepared his team in hopes of minimizing mistakes to lift the trophy at the end of the game. “We would like to play as error-free as possible and take advantage of our opportunities when they are there. »
Constantin believes that the outcome of the game could be determined by small things. “It can be played over six to ten games and turnovers can really cost us. »
The pilot believes that good preparation is essential to prevent the Carabins attack from having fun on the ground. “They have a very good receiving group and a good quarterback. It could be played on our preparation. »
On offense, Laval will rely on wide receiver Kevin Mital, author of 14 touchdowns this season. His arrival in Quebec was providential for Constantin’s troupe. “He dominated everywhere he went. I knew he was going to dominate, but his ease is so disconcerting that it looks easy. »
Carabins coach Marco Iadeluca is familiar with Mital, who coached him through the collegiate ranks before he got a scholarship to Syracuse University. Iadeluca knows very well that he will have to keep an eye on his former protege. “It’s a whole football player that will have to be controlled. »
Iadeluca displays cautious confidence in the face of the fearsome Rouge et Or attack. He says his club will be ready. “They’re a team that’s been playing well for two years and I think we’ve done a good job against them the last two years. We will do the same on Saturday. »
Montreal will also rely on a group of quality receivers and the return to play of Hassane Dosso will be one of the cornerstones of the Montreal attack. “The key to any attack is having multiple different weapons and being able to do a bit of everything. We are very happy to have our number one receiver, but to have all our guys back allows us to distribute the ball. I think we are completely different from the last time we came here. »
