Last weekend, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 Novembertwo important days were held dedicated to sport from the youngest to the oldest, organized by judo section of Cus Siena. After 13 years of absence of such an important judo event in Siena, after the last City of Siena which saw top-level athletes clash last weekend Siena hosted the second most important national competitionthe Italian judo cup dedicated to the memory of master Bruno Nibbi, father of judo in Siena and founder of the judo section of Cus.
The events that were held in these two days at the palaCorsoni were the best opportunity to celebrate a long career of the Sienese company which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
The weekend started with the Mini Tuscany Cup, an interregional competition for the pre-competitive classes, which saw the participation of over 120 athletes divided between the children, children and teenagers classes. In addition to a judo competition, the Saturday event was an important moment for both the very young judokas and their parents, in fact for each age group, before the competitiona technical stage on the tatami was organized for the boys and held by the Cus Siena technicians and at the same time a seminar was organized for parents, held by Dr. Rosetta Pleimes, anti-doping manager of the Fijlkam (Judo federation), with the theme “Hidden doping”a great work of information that has made the parents of young judoka aware of the importance of knowing perfectly what we take, what the intake of doping substances entails and how to request exemptions from Coni.
Sunday it was a day of intense emotions and full of events which saw top-level athletes get on the tatami, medalists at the European and world championships, competing for the Italian Cup and the judo kata Tournament of the Regions. In a completely exceptional way, this year the Italian Cup was dedicated to the memory of Maestro Bruno Nibbi, a great promoter of judo both in Siena but also throughout Tuscany and Italy, Florentine by birth but Sienese by adoption, spent the whole his life for judo.
The morning started with the opening ceremony of the event where in addition to the greetings of the councilor for sport of the Municipality of Siena Paolo Benini and the president of Cus Siena Giuseppe Gottithe Deputy Chairman of the Kata Commission of Fijlkam Monica Piredda who read the letter that the President of Fijlkam Domenico Falcone dedicated to the Sienese company. After these first institutional moments it was the turn of one of the most touching and emotional moments of the day with the screening of a video dedicated to Bruno Nibbi, which was followed by the words of the widow Maria Grazia Nibbi who recalled the love and passion with which the master Nibbi dedicated himself to this sport.
The competition saw over 70 pairs of athletes from all over Italy get on the tatamifrom Veneto to Puglia, passing through Sardinia, who performed during the day in the different kata (pre-established sequence of techniques made to demonstrate a principle or an intention).
After the lunch break there was another very emotional momentwith the demonstration of a kata (kodokan goshin jutsu) by a boy with down syndrome together with Maestro Mauro Collini, a touching performance that made the PalaCorsoni resound for many minutes with thunderous applause.
At the demonstration couples from Siena also participatedachieving excellent results:
Yuri Ferretti, in pairs with the Florentine Andrea Giani Continiranked first in the Italian Cup in the Kime no kata category with a score of 517, just a few points behind another Sienese couple made up of Luca Cavecchia and Omar Pasquinuzzi who finished in fourth place with 490 points.
Also for the Tournament of the Regions the Sienese couples obtained excellent placements:

Also thanks to the excellent results of the Cus Siena athletes, the Ranking of the tournament of the regions saw Tuscany in first place, followed by Emilia Romagna and then in third place by Piedmont.
The youth classes also took part in the competition, specifically the under 10s and under 14s, who performed small demonstrations, also obtaining excellent results and great appreciation from the federation managers.
“They have been very intense days that have brought back very strong emotions and memories, not least those of the organization of the 25 editions of the City Tournament of the Paliothis was the first competition organized without the supervision of our Maestro Nibbi, but after the competition we can say with certainty that in recent years he has provided us with all the credentials to organize top-level competitions in his beloved Siena” these are the words of the organizers of the demonstrations, happy with how the two days of competitions went and with the results of the athletes.
