The campaign of the Carabinieri of Naples against the use of weapons begins; in 11 months, 671 weapons were seized, 66 people arrested and 258 reported.
From submachine guns to pistols, to knives, baseball bats, brass knuckles and even a few bombs: 671 weapons in total. An arsenal that could easily be the endowment of a military battalion, and instead it is what the carabinieri of the Provincial Command of Naples have seized in about 11 months: doing the math, there are more than two weapons a day, among those found in makeshift hiding places or during personal searches.
The data was disclosed at the start of the campaign “The first victim is you. No to weapons“, launched yesterday by the Provincial Command of Naples. In detail, 206 firearms, 228 cutting weapons, 237 including brass knuckles, nunchucks, ammunition, clubs and similar objects ended up under seizure. The people arrested for port and possession of weapons are were 66 (of which 4 minors), those reported 258 (of which 41 minors). The count also includes the crimes for which these weapons were used: 139 attacks with firearms, including 8 homicides and 34 injuries; with edged weapons there were instead 97 (with no homicides and 63 injuries).
“You are the first victim”, the carabinieri campaign
For the campaign, the Arma has decided to address itself purely to the youngest, using, as the general explained Henry ScandoneProvincial Commander of the Carabinieri of Naples, “the language of images, to reach young people directly“. Hence the decision to use a poster, with an image in which “that sense of insecurity that those armed hands raise was latent. A dark silhouette without personality that collides with a blurry reflection, with a distorted reading of a gesture that only brings trouble. We have tried to attribute to that figure a sense of insecurity that disguises itself as bravado – continued the Provincial Commander – we want to send a clear but ruthless message. If you pull the trigger, if you pull a stab you aim at yourself first. The first victim is you who arms your hand“.
