This message hits FC Bayern right in the heart: for the captain Manuel Neuer (36) is the Season over after an injury on a skiing holiday!

The Bayern goalkeeper broke his lower leg on a ski tour in his native Bavaria on Friday.

BILD answers the most important questions about the new shock:

Exactly what injury does Neuer have?

According to BILD information, he suffered a shaft fracture on the right tibia – not an open fracture.

PICTURE white: Neuer was treated in the BG accident clinic in Murnau (at Staffelsee, 70 kilometers south of Munich) by ankle specialist Dr. Johannes Gabel operates. Bavarian and DFB doctor Dr. Jochen Hahne (44) from 2007 to 2013 and did his specialist training as an orthopedist and trauma surgeon there.

In their press release, Bayern spoke of a fall while skiing.

Did Bavaria know about the ski vacation?

Football professionals are repeatedly reminded of the risk of danger in leisure activities. Some clubs therefore explicitly prohibit their players from skiing, while others allow discretion.

According to BILD information, every Bayern contract states that the stars are not allowed to practice any dangerous sports. It is questionable whether ski touring – a special type of winter sport on skis, which is mostly practiced off-piste – is one of the dangerous sports.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann (35) also loves ski tours. Former star Arjen Robben (38), on the other hand, saved the piste for many years after the end of his career so as not to injure himself.

According to BILD information, Neuer does not have a skiing clause in his contract – this leisure activity is therefore not explicitly prohibited and therefore does not have to be registered for the time being. The Bayern goalkeeper loves outdoor sports! He is a huge fan of road cycling. He also loves hiking around his home town of Tegernsee and those ski tours.

It is also unclear whether Neuer will receive sick pay from the trade association. Because now the BG has to decide whether the Bayern captain did risky sports. Normally, the employer continues to pay the normal salary (up to 21 million euros per year) for six weeks, after which there is sick pay.

What do Bayern say about this?

CEO Oliver Kahn (53): “The news of Manuel’s injury shocked us all. We will stand by his side and accompany him on his way to his comeback. He will overcome this serious injury and come back to the pitch as strong as ever.”

Sports director: Hasan Salihamidzic (45): “It’s terrible that Manuel had such an accident and of course all our thoughts are with him. I spoke to him yesterday and today, the operation went as well as possible. Manuel will receive every support. He is a strong personality and will come back. I wish him all the best, he can rely on FC Bayern!”

Will Bayern get a goalkeeper now?

Open! With Sven Ulreich (34) and the young Johannes Schenk (19), Bayern still have two goalkeepers in their professional squad. Lukas Schneller (21), the regular goalkeeper of the second team, has also just had an operation on his thigh.

Going into the second half of the season with Ulreich as number one is the most obvious solution. In recent years he has had to represent Neuer again and again. This was also the case this season, when the Bayern keeper injured his shoulder joint, and in the previous season, when the captain was out due to knee surgery and his corona infection. Ulreich always showed very good performances – except for a fatal mistake in the 2018 Champions League semifinals at Real Madrid, when he stood in for Neuer for months after his three (!) Metatarsal fractures.

Shortly before the World Cup, Ulreich’s contract was extended early until the summer of 2024. Neuer appreciates the loyalty of his substitute, who would go back to the bench without complaint from the summer.

It wasn’t the foul! That’s why the Holland Bank freaked out

What does that mean for Alexander Nübel (26)?

The goalkeeper was brought in from FC Schalke 04 on a free transfer in 2020 and should become the new number one in the future. However, after just one season, Bayern loaned Nübel to AS Monaco to gain match practice.

The loan deal will run until the summer of 2023, so Bayern would have to convince Nübel-Verein Monaco to let the goalkeeper out of the contract early. Nübel is the principal goalkeeper, however. It is questionable whether Monaco would really want to look around for a new goalkeeper in winter – and would find him…

It would be a great advantage for Bayern if you could look at Nübel as a potential number one for six months. He only made four games for the record champions. In the past few months, Nübel has made it very clear publicly that he does not want to sit back on the bench when Neuer is fit again in the summer.

So Bayern has a fundamental decision to make: Nübel or Neuer!

The statements by Bayern boss Kahn that Neuer will “return to the pitch as strong as before” make it clear that the club boss wants to rely on Neuer again in the summer.

Are there other transfer considerations?

According to BILD information, there have been no other goalkeeper candidates so far. None of those responsible believed that this position would become a major construction site in the current season.

It would be possible that a new number two will be brought in behind Ulreich. Other options would be Keylor Navas (35/does not matter at PSG) and Yann Sommer (33/contract expires in Gladbach at the end of the season, but Borussia actually wants to keep him until then).

Also conceivable would be Croatian keeper Dominik Livakovic (27), who is showing fantastic performances at the World Cup. Bayern boss Kahn was already taking notes on the goalkeeper in the stands in Qatar. The Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper would certainly be cheap to get.

Is Neuer thinking of ending his career?

No, on the contrary! According to BILD information, the national goalkeeper wants to come back as the clear number one at Bayern in the summer – always with a focus on the home EM 2024 with the DFB-Elf.
