NFL: No charges brought against Matt Araiza and two San Diego State players

Former Buffalo Bills kicker Matt Araiza and his former San Diego State University football teammates will not face criminal charges in connection with a gang rape charge of a 17-year-old girl .

The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office made the announcement Wednesday. The event, according to the charges, was caused during an off-campus party at the facility in October 2021. Two other San Diego Aztecs players were also named in the case, Zavier Leonard and Nowlin Ewaliko.

The prosecution says Araiza, who was 21 at the time, brought the alleged victim to his home, where three other men were present. The complainant was then allegedly repeatedly raped. A report obtained by ESPN said the girl suffered “bruises” to her neck and throat area, as well as a cut on her forehead.

The district attorney’s office said the San Diego Police Department did not recommend charges be filed when the case was submitted in early August.

However, a civil lawsuit is still pending.

The Bills released Araiza on August 27, two days after the charges emerged. The team drafted him in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The rookie got the starting job during training camp.
