German Tennis Association praises Boris Becker’s unique merits

The German Tennis Association is keeping the door open for Boris Becker (55), who has been released from prison, for a role in German tennis and wants to seek contact with the sports legend. “We will continue to have a close exchange with him after his return to Germany,” said the DTB on Tuesday on request: “Boris Becker has been an integral part of the German tennis family for decades. His merits are and will remain unique.”

The three-time Wimbledon winner last worked as Head of Men’s Tennis at the DTB from 2017 to 2020 and was also involved in courses with young people. “He did a great job. He was an absolute asset,” said former long-time DTB sports director Klaus Eberhard, who still works as a team manager for the Davis Cup selection, of the German Press Agency.

DTB Vice President on Boris Becker: “The doors at DTB are still open to him”

Becker was sentenced to prison by a London court at the end of April for failing to properly declare parts of his assets in his bankruptcy proceedings. The 55-year-old was released on Thursday and is now in Germany.

At the end of November, DTB Vice President Dirk Hordorff told “Sport Bild” that DTB would like to involve Becker again in the future. “The doors at the DTB are always open to Boris Becker,” said Hordorff. “Once he has served his sentence, there is nothing to prevent him from taking up a position again.”
