Reunion with Stan Querel, a young basketball player from Gimont who, two years ago, was packing his bags, with dreams in his head.
Almost two years ago, we presented in this newspaper an ambitious and motivated young basketball player from Gimont, on the way to living his American dream around the practice of basketball. Taking advantage of the school holidays and the truce for confectioners, Stan Querel returned to the Gers for a saving break. If the ambition is still intact, the projects multiply, to diversify the field of possibilities.
What has happened to you since your departure for the United States in the spring of 2021?
From 2021 to 2022, I spent my senior school and sports year at Winston-Salem Christian School. And since August 2022, I’ve been playing at Gardner-Webb University, which is in the NCAA Premier League, for their development team.
What is next for you and how is your future shaping up?
For now, I see myself staying at Gardner-Webb for a few more years. Hoping, why not, to join their flag team and have a more important role in the senior workforce.
What would you say to a young person or parents who are still hesitant and who are wondering about going on this adventure too?
This adventure is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, there are many sacrifices that should not be overlooked. In parallel with this university and sports project and for information, my brother and I are creating a Streetwear brand that aims to be fair, sustainable, local and societal production. Indeed, to my knowledge, it is a world first to mark in the statutes that a third of the profits made by the brand will be donated to a long-term environmental action.
