I didn’t know the repercussion we have among the students. They are the ones who make us strong and because of them we are coaches. And in this there is no magic, just train and train to train better athletes and that the students are fully trained ”.

His arrival at Prepa 7

The story of coach Melchor Valle with the Redskins started in 1984 When he arrived as a biology teacher to replace the teacher Carlos Escamilla, however, he had to teach physical education classes.

His performance in this matter was such that the then director of High School 7, Gilberto Villarreal, offered him to leave the classroom and devote himself entirely to the fields.

“Physical education was already different and we formed four groups. I took the volleyball teams and we were three-time champions. And when they offered me the basketball teams, well, I was very happy. I fulfilled a wish and we began to win. In fact, a good rivalry was formed against the Vaqueros and the Toros at that time”, mentioned the coach who was champion in the tournament of the State Sports Council of Higher Secondary Education in 2019.

In his first stage with the Redskins, Valle Mendoza obtained, from 1985 to 2009, 26 first places in basketball, three volleyball championships and one chess championship.

“You have to know how to respect your rival”

Melchor Valle Mendoza remembers with joy his students who today are teachers and coaches, such as Jorge Valenciano, Miguel Espinoza and Luis Francisco Ibarra, and with nostalgia the recently deceased player from Monterrey and Tigres Alfredo “Alacrán” Jiménez, whom he considered a great student and athlete.

The best thing is that the young student advances in the academy and takes a great memory of his sporting activity, as well as knowing that discipline and work will lead him to success. The true teaching is knowing how to win and lose, respect your rival and congratulate him if he wins.

He mentioned that now that he is going out to play on a field near Colonia Villa Universidad, in San Nicolás de los Garza, alumni and players from rival teams approach him to greet him and remember some passages they lived with him.

“One of them told me that in a game against Pablo Livas High School that they lost, I told him that he had played very well and that he was a good player, and that those words had a positive influence on his life. He also introduced me to his family and told them in front of me that he was a great coach, ”he mentioned.

The coach has a tattoo of the Redskins jersey and even remembers that his wife used to tell him when he went to the UANL fields: “at once take a cot and stay there”.

His legacy at UANL

Professor Melchor Valle was born on April 10, 1949 in Sabinas Hidalgo, Nuevo León. Graduated from the Escuela Normal Superior, professionally he was on his way to teaching, but an advertisement in the newspaper in which engineer Cayetano Garza Garza, head of the Sports Department, announced the creation of the Sports Organization School led him to UANL.

He studied sports on the 11th floor of the Rectory and lived through the change of dependency to the area that is now occupied by the Faculty of Sports Organization.

That is why he nostalgically remembers places like the now-defunct Olympic pool and the training camps where he taught hundreds of outstanding university athletes.

UANL gave me everything. And if I already had a knowledge of physical education, having studied at the Uni increased everything, gave it a more professional sense. It had reached another level and improved my knowledge of the sport in many ways.”
