New Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet will earn $2.75 million per season.
According to the TSN network, Tocchet will receive this sum until the end of the 2024-2025 season. The Vancouver organization pays salaries to two former head coaches, Bruce Boudreau and Travis Green.
Tocchet’s hiring was made official by the Canucks on Sunday after Bruce Boudreau was fired.
“These decisions are never easy, said general manager Patrick Allvin about this departure at a press conference. At this point, I felt we needed a new voice to see if we could get group buy-in.”
Boudreau coached his last game Saturday against the Edmonton Oilers. When the game ended, the 68-year-old sat behind the bench for quite a while and received a standing ovation from the home crowd.
Tocchet’s baptism of fire as Canucks head coach will take place Tuesday night when his team takes on the Chicago Blackhawks, the 30th-ranked National League overall.
