MADRID, 3 Feb. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has participated this Friday in a basketball game with players in wheelchairs and they have all dressed in the number 49 shirt to defend the reform of this article of the Constitution and thus eliminate the term ‘diminished’.
“This morning we proudly wore the 49 on the shirt. A basketball lesson but, above all, a life lesson,” Sánchez stressed in a message on Twitter, accompanied by a video in which he is seen “throwing some baskets” with the wheelchair basketball section of the FDI Villa de Leganés Foundation and the IMF Smart Education Getafe BSR.
“I just finished a game with these great players in wheelchairs, people who work every day, who exceed about 4 million Spanish men and women with some type of disability,” Sánchez explains in another video.
According to the President of the Government, the administrations can do “much more to integrate the reality of disability” and he has highlighted how they have done it in the field of sport, through the Sports Law, “a pioneer in the integration of disability”.
Although, he has specified that there are still “pending tasks” such as “reform article 49 of the Constitution” that uses the term ‘disabled’ to refer to people with disabilities. For this reason, he has stressed that “the Government of Spain has proposed a reform of this article, in line with what the United Nations establishes” and has shown his desire that this demand from disability organizations “see the light soon in The general courts”.
