WINTERSWIJK – Badminton club ‘t Pluumke ’67 will hold a recreational Badminton tournament for the 46th time on March 27 and 29. The Sports and Gymnastics Hall Winterswijk is the setting for this sporty and fun event. And the organization has something new in store: the Camping class.
‘We are finally allowed again’
Erwin Ruesink and Mark ten Pas of BC ‘t Pluumke ’67 have been the driving forces behind the organization of the Recreational Badminton Tournament for years. “We are happy that we can finally organize our tournament again”, says Ruesink. Before corona, we welcomed a group of regular participants every year for whom the Recreational Badminton Tournament. We look forward to finally welcoming them back to the sports hall after the corona years.” Ten Pas adds: “In addition to the teams that compete for the prizes every year, we also see new faces every year. That has been the strength of our tournament for decades. And again this year we hope to show many new participants what makes badminton so beautiful and what the sport has to offer.”
The sport of badminton is known to be practiced by athletes of all ages. “Whether they have extensive experience or have never been on the field. Our sport is extremely suitable for a broad target group”, says Ten Pas. “In the lower classes, there is room for teams that have rarely or never hit a shuttle. While in the higher classes, the more experienced badminton players can compete for the title at their own level. As a result, every participant plays exciting matches at his or her own level. Due to this set-up, there is also room for participants with little or no experience, so that the tournament remains accessible and interesting for everyone.”
Sportsmanship and fun
The Recreational Badminton Tournament has long been known for its fun and sporty character. The sporty battle on the badminton court goes hand in hand with the pleasant atmosphere on and off the field. Erwin Ruesink: “Because of its sporty and fun character, the Recreational Badminton Tournament is ideally suited for friends (groups), colleagues, families and other acquaintances. We provide a nice program and competitions. And the participants do the rest. In addition to their sporting commitment, they always provide a good atmosphere on and off the field.”
Camping class
The organization will introduce a new class in 2023: the Camping class. Ten Pas: “Actually, the intention was to start this extra class in 2020, but due to corona things went a little differently than expected. But postponement certainly does not lead to adjustment. On Monday 27 and Wednesday 29 March there will be a battle for the Camping title”, says Ten Pas. Ruesink explains: “In this class we offer a place for all newcomers for whom a badminton tournament is a completely new experience. For years we have had a group division with a distinction in men’s doubles, women’s doubles or mixed doubles. We let that go in the new, additional Camping class. Playing badminton at the campsite evokes positive memories for many people. Therefore a playful name for this new class with a wink. And it refers to fun and relaxation. And that is ultimately always the most important thing in sports”, concludes Ruesink.
