JUDO – Judoka Guillaume Gaulin is part of the first cohort of athletes in the New Generation Access program. The Valdorien will pocket financial assistance of $1,500 to remove certain barriers to the practice of his sport.
Set up by the Aléo Foundation, this scholarship helps high-level athletes who have to deal with financial, academic or geographic constraints. Gaulin is part of a contingent of 59 athletes who will share a prize pool of $100,000.
Now in Montreal for his studies at the Polytechnique, the student of the Juvaldo school also had to leave his native region in order to continue his development and reach greater heights.
“Judo is a discipline where many athletes choose to leave their region at an early age to settle in Montreal or Quebec. We are aware of the emotional difficulties and economic obstacles that this entails. This is why this financial support is crucial to help these young athletes stay focused on the essentials, namely to continue their studies and their sporting career,” explains the president of Judo-Québec, Patrick Kearny.
RDS network host and former Montreal Alouettes receiver Danny Desriveaux was one of the guests at the ceremony, which took place at the Maison du Loisir et du Sport.
