The Saintes 2023 duathlon is already a success. The seventh edition, organized this Sunday February 26 by Saintes Triathlon, will attract a good turnout. “There are 628 registered at the closing of online registrations. Qualifications Galore
The event is aimed at young people as well as adults. “We go from the 6-9 year old format to the S format, does he present. We have two races for young people (6-9 and 10-13 years old)an XS (2.5 km running, 10 km cycling, 1.25 km running)a feminine and masculine S and an S Open (5 km CAP, 10 km cycling and 2.5 km CAP)”. The Saintes duathlon is also selective for the French D3 duathlon club championships and selective for the French Cup for duathlon clubs. “There are a lot of clubs who come to seek this qualification in D3 for the semi-final. We also support the departmental duathlon championships for the young categories”, adds the manager. For those entering the S format, the main objective is to rediscover sensations. “For some participants, this is their first race of the year. It’s a bit of a break-in, just to find the rhythm of the competitions”.
The routes of the running and cycling circuits remain accessible. “There is no particular difficulty, except for a few reminders for the race, he specifies. Concerning the bike, in Saintes, we have a small bump at around 5%. She will make the selection and decide between the competitors, knowing that they will have to do it several times. Athletes should have a headwind as well”. Among the men, three duathletes stand out: Léo Starck, Asger-Jorn Vaes and Florian Dupré. Athletes from Bordeaux and La Rochelle clubs are outsiders. On the women’s side, winning should be played out between several clubs: the Brive Limousin Triathlon, La Rochelle Triathlon and the TCG 79 Parthenay. “All races remain open and contested. You never know what can happen, especially since there can be hazards, such as punctures on the bike part”, emphasizes Pierre Mahaud.
