RHuge success for Bad Erlach judoka Aaron Fara. The 25-year-old makes it to the final of the prestigious Grand Slam in Tashkent (Uzbekistan).
Aaron Fara celebrated his greatest success to date at the Grand Slam in Tashkent. The 25-year-old from JC Wimpassing only had to admit defeat in the final in the class up to 100 kilos to Varlam Liparteliani from Georgia, Olympic silver medalist in 2016 and three-time European champion, after 3:30 minutes. Fara fought his way into the final with four quick ippon wins, including against world number four Szhafar Kostoev of the United Arab Emirates.
World Cup ticket fixed, Paris within reach
Thanks to the 700 points for the world rankings, Fara will make a big leap forward in the Olympic qualification for Paris 2024. He has also secured the ticket for the World Cup in Doha in May, confirmed ÖJV sports director Markus Moser.
“Aaron was a force”
“Aaron showed an outstanding performance throughout the day. In the past he has repeatedly shown that he can beat anyone. Now for the first time he brought it to the mat consistently and focused and was a force. Even in the final he set the tone for three minutes, so the outcome is a bit bitter, but Liparteliani is a world-class fighter,” explained Moser.
