Two cards of 59 in quick succession for an Australian pro!

It is an extremely rare feat, probably unprecedented, that the Australian Peter Wilson managed on the course of the Lang Lang Golf Club (par 70), in the State of Victoria: two cards of 59 in a row!

The information was reported by the PGA Tour of Australasia and it is certainly the first time in the history of golf that a player has managed to play 59 twice in a row in an official tournament.

Her name ? Peter Wilsonwho has nothing to do with his namesake golfer, a 55-year-old English pro.

Only one victory in 20 years…

At 45, the 881st player in the world, pro since 2002, did not necessarily have the profile to accomplish such a feat. Only one career win Western Australia PGA Championship of 2012, in 215 starts in tournaments counted by the world ranking (OWGR).

7 birdies on the return, two days in a row…

On Saturday, Wilson started gently: two birdies and an eagle on the way out, for a nice 31. Before flying away on the return: 7 birdies in a row, from 12 to 18. On Sunday, again, with the same scores on the outward and on the return trip, varying the pleasures: 4 birdies first (no eagle), and another 7 on the return trip, but not consecutively. Without the slightest bogey to damage the map.

Jim Furyk, above the lot

For comparison, the PGA Tour American has only recorded 10 players who played 60 or less in any of its tournaments, and the DP World Tour only one.

Jim Furyk really stands out, because he returned a card of 59 in 2013, in the 2nd round of the BMW Championship (11 birdies, 1 bogey), then one of 58 in 2016, in the last round of the Travelers Championship (10 birdies, 1 eagle), the first 58 in the history of the PGA Tour. With seven birdies in a row, like Peter Wilson.
