Crowds of excited fans, a fast and short track and the prospect of the end of the season were behind the relaxed atmosphere of the Czech Republic supersprint championship, which was hosted by the Mšeno-Břízky complex in Jablonec. But when the starting shots were fired, the athletes were fully concentrated. In the end, the final races were won by those who were the best in the Czech national team jersey throughout the season – Markéta Davidová, 9th in the overall SP classification, and Michal Krčmář, 13th in the men’s SP classification.

From the heats, which were divided into two events in the form of an interval start, teenage hopefuls Ilona Plecháčová, Valerie Křížová, Veronika Bártová and Ferdinand Jansa advanced to the finals alongside seasoned fighters.

In the finals, the top ten competed in four events, and the athletes completed a total of five 800-meter-long broken circuits. Michal Krčmář decided the race in start-finish style. On the contrary, Markéta Davidová overtook Jessica Jislova thanks to a flawless final item.

“I’m very happy that we were able to thank our fans here in Jablonec, who supported us all winter. Although the Supersprint was a championship race, the atmosphere was friendly and we all had a lot of fun. Maybe also because it was the last race of the season and we are all looking forward to some time off. In Oslo, I had already raced with back pain for the last two days and it wasn’t the same. Now I’m putting on my ski boots and I’m going to be a dad, and a fan too. I’m looking forward to going to hockey and football,” the new champion of the Czech Republic in the supersprint made plans Michal Krcmar.

And what Markéta Davidová? “Sleep, horses, and otherwise no plan. This is exactly what I need for the next few days. The season was good, I’m only sorry that I couldn’t do the last race of the season at Holmenkollen due to bad weather. There I lost an even better ranking in the World Cup. In the end, however, I end the season happily, because I won the last supersprint event here in Jablonec.”

The junior relay world champion Ferdinand Jansa (8th) also appeared in the supersprint final.
