But now: After three games that fell through, the baseball players of the Füssen Royal Bavarians finally want to start the new season.

feet – After two game cancellations due to the weather, the baseball season in the 2nd Bundesliga for the Füssen Royal Bavarians is finally to be opened next Saturday. For the Füssener it goes directly to the possible playoff opponents Gauting Indians.

The April weather hasn’t exactly made it easy for baseball players in Germany so far. The Füssen Royal Bavarians in particular were hit hard: two games and two cancellations due to the weather. Last Saturday’s home game against the Ellwangen Elks was canceled due to rain and snow. “The team is ready and ready to go!” Says head coach Mitch Stephan, adding: “Unfortunately, baseball doesn’t work when it’s five degrees and it’s raining.”

Next Saturday, however, the weather report gives hope for improvement: 21 degrees and sunshine in Gauting. “That makes a baseball heart beat faster,” Stephan says happily. But it won’t be an easy opening game for Stephan’s men. The Gauting Indians are among the top candidates for one of the coveted but very limited playoff spots.

Good mix in the squad

Because only four of the total of twelve teams are allowed to compete in the second half of the season in the playoffs against the top 4 in the southwest group. In addition to strong young talent and two U18 national players, Gauting has a good mix with some Bundesliga veterans in the squad. Sieggarant, Michael Hübner, could also be kept. The hard-throwing pitcher has always been one of the best pitchers in the league in recent years.

The RBs still go into the opening games against the “Indians” with a broad chest. Above all, the pitching around Silvan Zacek and newcomer Matt Malconian has done very well so far. “We also worked harder on our defense this week, which still showed a few weaknesses in preparation,” says Stephan.

Offensively, Stephan has to do without a big support on Saturday. Bastian Zaharia is unable to attend due to work. In addition, Josef Aman is initially out with a torn muscle fiber. Otherwise all players are fit and ready to play.

The game starts on Saturday at 12 noon or 3 p.m. in the Würmtal Ballpark in Gauting.
