Gwangju Elementary School badminton team seriously injured in Cheongsongseo car accident

At around 8:14 pm on the 27th, a 1-ton truck running in the direction of Cheongsong-eup and a van traveling in the direction of Jinbo-myeon collided head-on on Route 31 in Pacheon-myeon, Cheongsong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Resident A (73), a 1-ton truck driver, died in the accident, and three out of seven people in the van suffered minor injuries and were immediately taken to a large hospital.

According to the police, a coach and 6 players from an elementary school in Gwangju, who participated in a national badminton competition held in Cheongsong, were in the van. It is understood that the accident occurred while they were moving to their lodgings in Jinbo. It is known that the players who had the accident experienced abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, and decreased consciousness, and among them, three students were found to be seriously injured.

The seriously injured students are being transferred to Andong Hospital, Kyungpook National University Hospital, and Wonju Severance Hospital, respectively, for treatment. A student receiving treatment at Andong Hospital had a lumbar fracture and an orbital fracture, and a student admitted to Wonju Severance Hospital underwent surgery for intestinal rupture. The student, who was transferred to Kyungpook National University Hospital, was confirmed to have a leg fracture.

It is known that the remaining coach and three students were moved to the emergency room of the Cheongsong-gun Health Medical Center, and after resting, they were discharged with their guardians who arrived at the hospital at dawn the next day.

Police and others are currently investigating the exact cause of the accident.
