Guerschon Yabusele suspended for 5 games after taking judo against Partizan

Involved yesterday in the general fight during the match against Partizan Belgrade, the Frenchman Guerschon Yabusele received a 5-game suspension for his judo take on Dante Exum. This sanction ends his season in the EuroLeague.

It just fell, Guerschon Yabusele was fined 5 game suspension by the EuroLeague following the general fight between Real Madrid and Partizan Belgrade.
A quick reminder of the facts. In Game 2 of the EuroLeague quarter-final, events took a dramatic turn. A general brawl with sniffles, chifarnasses and other joys exploded less than two minutes from the end. So on the floor, the Frenchman totally cracked up by doing a judo take on the opposing leader, Dante Exum.

Result of the races: the match was stopped 1’40 from the end confirming the victory of Partizan (which now leads 2-0 in the series). Beyond the sanction, the French interior risked much more following his action. According to the EuroLeague disciplinary code, he could have taken up to 4 years of suspension! According to the Iberian media Marca, Real Madrid should also sanction their player following this sad affair.

Guerschon Yabusele apologized via his Instagram account:

“I deeply regret my behavior during the meeting last night. Basketball has always been for me, the field of expression of sportsmanship and respect. I sincerely apologize to Partizan Belgrade, a club with which we have always had an excellent relationship, to Dante Exum and his family, but also to my teammates, my club and all fans of this sport.”

On the Serbian side, we learned that Dante Exum suffered from a toe tendon rupture following this judo hold, a “serious injury” according to Moma Jakovljevic, a Partizan doctor who spoke in the Serbian media Telegraf.

Other sanctions were pronounced against players: Kevin Punter (Partizan) is suspended for 2 games and Gabriel Deck (Real) and Mathias Lessort (Partizan) for one game. Both clubs get away with a fine of €50,000 each.
