The national teams of China, Mexico and Georgia are included in one basket with the Latvian national team. The teams of the second (France, Serbia, Slovenia and Lithuania), fourth (Canada, Venezuela, Montenegro and Puerto Rico) and eighth (Lebanon, Egypt, South Sudan and Cape Verde) baskets can be received in the opponents of the mentioned three national teams. Montenegro cannot be drawn for Latvia, because there cannot be three European teams in one subgroup.
Latvians can be drawn into subgroups B, D, F and H. The first two of them will be played in the Philippines, the teams of Group F will play each other in Japan, while in Group H, the Latvian Basketball Association (LBS) and fans can start counting on a trip to Indonesia.
The two strongest teams from each subgroup will reach the second stage of the group tournament, being divided into groups I, J, K and L, in which the eight participants of the quarter-finals will be determined in the 16-team competition. On the other hand, the third and fourth place winners of the first stage will be divided into M, N, O and P groups for the fight for 17-32. place.
