It should be noted that Andreeva, who is precisely turning 16, won her last point of the game after a fairly long rally with her rival, who comes from being a finalist at the last Australian Open in Melbourne.
Earlier this week, Andreeva, shocked 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Fernandez. She in this way became the third youngest player to win a main draw match at a WTA 1000 tournament. She followed that up by beating 14th-ranked WTA-ranked Beatriz Haddad Maia.
For her next challenge, the young Russian tennis player will face Aryna Sabalenka; number two in the world and current Australian Open champion.
“I didn’t expect to be here and play Sabalenka in the round of 16,” Andreeva said. “I’m not really surprised with my level, because I know how I can play on the court. But of course, I didn’t expect to be here and go this far.”
