Joong-soo Kim, vice president of the Korea Badminton Association, elected president of the Asian Badminton Federation

(Seoul = News 1) Reporter Lee Jae-sang = Kim Joong-soo (63), vice president of the Korea Badminton Association and president of the Korea Unemployed Badminton Federation, became the head of badminton in Asia.

Vice Chairman Kim Joong-soo was elected as the new chairman for a four-year term at the 2023 Badminton Asia Confederation regular general meeting executive election held in Dubai, UAE on the 29th.

At this general meeting, 40 out of 43 member countries participated in the vote to elect new executive members such as the president, vice-president, and secretary-general.

Vice Chairman Kim Joong-soo, who had registered as a candidate for the chairmanship, was selected as the chairman with 29 votes out of 40 countries in a competition with Kuwait’s Ali Jaber Almari, who received support from Middle Eastern countries.

Chosen as the new president of the Asian Federation, he became the third Korean head after former president Jeong Jeong-hoon (1995-1997) and former chairman Kang Young-joong (2003-2006). This is the first case from a domestic athlete.

He served as the coach of the Korean national badminton team and coached Lee Yong-dae and Lee Hyo-jung to the mixed doubles gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

The new president, Kim Joong-soo, expressed his feelings, saying, “We will work hard to raise the status of Asian badminton by uniting both the countries that voted for us and the countries that supported our opponents.”
