A time persuaded to face Tyson Fury, he no longer seems to be in the race. Francis Ngannou must therefore fall back on other tracks concerning his post-UFC career. Fortunately for him, these are not lacking, and send him in particular to other prestigious MMA leagues. Chatri Sityodtong, boss of the ONE Championship, recently declared at the microphone of the MMA Hour :
He has a lot of proposals on the table, and we are aware of it. He’s waiting for us to make our final offer. I’m going to meet him this Saturday in Los Angeles. He and I are going to sit down and chat. He’s sure ONE can hand him the biggest offer of all, but it has to be a win-win. (…) I think that very soon there will be big information that will fall on Francis.
The two threats that await Francis Ngannou at ONE
One of the most reputable federations in the field, the ONE Championship has something to appeal to Ngannou. Indeed, the Predator could not only play boxing matches there, as he calls for it, but also continue his career in MMA there. Sityodtong is willingly considering this scenario, where he already sees two heavyweight stars potentially causing him big problems:
To be honest, and as I’ve said publicly before, I think he’s going to have a tough time in our heavyweight division. It’s going to be a big challenge for Francis. When you look at a guy like Anatoly Malykhin, who is 12-0 with an 80% finishing percentage, it’s a big striker like Ngannou’s worst nightmare in the cage. (…)
We also have a rising star like “Buchecha” (Marcus Almeida), who I believe is 5-0 or 6-0 at ONE, and who can be considered the best grappler of all time. He was crowned 13 or 14 times world champion of jiu-jitsu. He rolled over all his opponents. He’s a huge wrestler. This kind of profile is also a nightmare for Francis. And we’re just talking about a rising star in the division.
Necessarily dithyrambic about his colossal proteges, the boss of ONE therefore promises heavy things to Francis, whom he will not be able to find elsewhere than on the Asian circuit:
I think Francis will easily crush the heavyweight divisions of every other organization. The only one that will offer him a challenge is ours.
Convinced of ONE’s power of seduction over Francis Ngannou, Chatri Sityodtong promises him a nice challenge if he were to join its ranks. Anatoly Malykhin and Marcus Almeida would in any case have a good chance of causing him problems!
