The disappearance of Antonio Pilo, 81, a well-known judo master, who passed away last Friday 28 at the Saudino residence, where he had just been transferred from the hospital for rehabilitation after a fracture of the femur.
A great pain, that for his loss, which affected not only family and friends, but also the whole world that hides behind the two sinograms making up the word judo and meaning “path of adaptability”, reported on the funeral posters . A world populated by entire generations of children and young people who have been cultivated by him in the practice of this noble art, making it the commitment and passion of his life.
«He passed away serenely, – his son Gianmario recounts, deeply moved- my mother’s hand in the hand, in the sweet intensity of a last farewell, after a union that lasted 53 years. Born in Santhia, into a family of Sardinian origins, and almost immediately moved to Ivrea where he grew up and spent his life, he worked at Olivetti as a worker for 35 years. At the same time, for almost 50 years, he practiced judo: at the gymnasium of the Ruffini media, then in that of via dei Cappuccini and, at the end of this, at the Antonicelli, in the Bellavista district. In 1980 he became technical manager of the Judo Club Ivrea which, together with various collaborators, he directed until 2020. With his leadership, generations of young people have trained not only from a sporting point of view, but also in terms of personal growth ».
«Throughout his life – continues Gianmario Pilo – there have been his great fundamental passions, the cardinal points he had set to orient himself in the space of his personal universe: his wife Tonina, us children, my sister Mariangela and I, and the judo. Over time, the grandchildren Martina and Lorenzo have obviously joined these. Severe but fair, he was an example, a model and a teacher of life ».
A man who shone with his own light, known and appreciated in the city no less than the well-known Gianmario of whose successes in publishing and in the conception and creation of the reading festival The Great Invasion he was rightly proud of. In these days, many have gathered together with their wives and children and their respective families to bring them their comfort, in memory of a person who will always live in their hearts.
Maestro Antonio Pilo can still be greeted today, Monday 1, in the mortuary of the RSA Saudino, from 9 to 12 and from 15 to 17. Tomorrow, Tuesday 2, the coffin will be accompanied to the crematorium temple of Mappano and, subsequently, the ashes they will rest in the Cemetery of Ivrea.
