The mexican judoka Lenia Ruvalcaba announced his retirement from judo after a 26-year sports career, in which he won multiple medals in Paralympic Games for Mexico.
“It is an act of self-care. Due to a shoulder injury, I have decided to leave the taramis. It has been 26 years of competitions and I consider myself a lucky athlete to have succeeded in Paralympic Games, Parapan American Gamesnational and world tournaments”, highlighted the athlete.
Accompanied by her coach, Hilario Avila and the psychologist at the Sport, Margarita Cerviño, The woman from Jalisco affirmed that having been awarded recognitions such as the National Sports Award and double State Prize are important appointments that few people can boast.
Ruvalcaba added that his retirement does not imply leaving the sport at all, since now he will dedicate himself to promoting it from other spheres. “It is necessary to continually encourage the new generations, as well as create new spaces where everyone has the opportunity to develop.”
Already integrated into the Comude team in Guadalajara, Lenia will now seek to promote judo at a professional level in the region in addition to its ramification in the adapted sport modality, which already have a Rookie Cup that bears her name.
The athlete also thanked her family for the support provided during her athletic career, as well as her multidisciplinary team that was with her. After her gold in Rio 2016, Lenia won silver and bronze medals in Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2008, within the most important sports scene for athletes and world athletes.
